 Mildred idea of  dystopian society would boring just watching the walls and staying to herself because she doesn't really have  a caring attitude.My idea of utopian society would everyone treated the same and would be peaceful.

Professor's Faber idea of a Utopian society would be freely reading and creating books. Also, people enjoying learning and coming up with ideas to make the world a better place. "The magic is only in what the books say, how they stitched the patches of the universe together into one garment for us." This quote shows that books are crucial for the survival of the world. My idea of a Utopian society is world peace, people motivated to learn and more science advances.

Utopian vs. Dystopian

Beatty has a very dark personality. He hates books because of the fact that they make people frustrated. When people are frustrated, it leads to other derogatory, sometimes permanent problems.  A quote to support this claim can be found on page 65 when Beatty said, “The important thing to remember, Montag, is we’re the Happiness Boys, the Dixie Duo, you and I and the others. We stand against the small tide of those who want to make everyone unhappy with conflicting theory and thought. Don’t let the torrent of melancholy and drear philosophy drown our world.” This quote explains a lot about Beatty’s character. It shows his character as a person, his thoughts on the world as of now, and the reason for the world in the future to collapse on itself. He does not believe in books. In fact as the quote claims, Beatty hates books because in make people unhappy. He wants the world to be a good place. This means no books, no conflict, and no war. He thinks with these problems out of existence, people could start focusing on the only think that matters in life; the purpose in life: Instant pleasure. Finding you passion. Beatty’s passion was burning books. He hated books; so burning them gave him pleasure because it is one less book on this earth that could inherently end up in the hands of another unfortunate person. Beatty is concerned about the problems in the world, but he is focused on the solutions to these problems. Of course he is a little self -absorbed and claims the solution to books taking over the world realize in the hand of the fire fighters; realize in the hands of himself.  He is superman, in his world.

My Idea of a utopian society quiet honestly would look the exact same as life we are living now. See, God has a plan for everything. This means everything that happens in the world is part of his master plan for the future. Since I trust in God, I wouldn’t change anything. I’m not God; I don’t know what would happen if I changed something to the world. But if I were not to have this unconditional love for God, I would say my idea of a utopian society would look extremely happy and peaceful. My idea involves Bright colors, no conflicts, no problems, and no reason to get angry. In this society, Everyone’s problems are solved for him or her. Because of this, people have nothing to worry about. If no one were to worry about anything, people could put all their focus on God, the only important thing to remember in this confusing world. Everyone would wake up smiling; thinking to themselves “today is going to be a good day”. They would also get to bed with this same thought in mind.  God provides for everyone. However, sometimes he helps you in the most obscure ways. People in this society would do everything they can to help others, putting themselves last. People would also go to bed with this same out look on life because nothing can hurt you without your consent. There is nothing to worry about. Worrying is defined (by me) as “concerning of the future”. The future has not happened yet! With that being said, don’t worry, your never alone. There is always someone who loves you no matter how alone you may seem. This is a confusing world we live in. Build the life you want to live. Don’t let someone drag you by an imaginary chain around your neck. Everyone is important to this world.

If You Really Knew Me

In the book Fahrenheit 451, I (Professor Faber) am described as a coward, old, and smart. Some textual evidence of this is " Mr. Montag, you are looking at a coward. I saw the way things were going, a long time back. I said nothing. I'm one of the innocents who could have spoken up and out when no one would listen to the 'guilty,' but I did not speak and thus became guilty myself."This quote explains that I could have gotten up and protested but I stayed and hid in my home instead. One quote that shows how smart I really am is. "There is nothing magical in them at all. The magic is only in what books say, how they stitched the patches of the universe together into one garment for us." In this quote the literary device is personification, reason why is because it is giving books human qualities. A major theme that comes from my character is: Books are a way of life they guide us, entertain us, and teach us. Taking them away only brings pain and disaster.

If You Really Knew Me

Beatty is a man of many words. A complicated problem from the time he is introduced to the time Montag torches this malevolent fool alive. Bradbury uses contradictions, Irony, sarcasm and many other literary devices to describe Beatty. 

Here is an example of metaphor: “who are a little wise, the best fools be”. Beatty is well known for his trickery and confusing ideas. He is comparing wise people to being the best known fools of are time. Wise people try to make everything confusing by expressing how intelligent they are. Some wise men talk higher above most men; therefore no one but them understands what they are trying to say. When people get confused they get annoyed. When people get annoyed, they get angry. When people get angry, we have war. Thus wise men cause war, making them fools. Best description that came to mind.  This kooky idea is a little amplified, but, you get the idea.

“‘Well,’ said Beatty, ‘ the crisis is past and all is well, the sheep returns to the fold. We’re all sheep who have strayed at times.’” This is an example of an elusion. Beatty gives you something to think about.  When something bad happens, people flee, just as a sheep would if it were in danger. Also, people have strayed at one point in time. Montag was in danger of being lit on fire for reading book, which is illegal to do at this time. Montag quit his job and never told Beatty. When Montag walked into the fire station, Beatty thought he was coming back to work because his sickness had pasted. Montag is the sheep that has strayed from his job because he was in danger and afraid of Beatty. But as Beatty said in the quote, “the sheep returns to the fold after the crisis passes.” The crisis being the reason Montag hates his job.

These two quotes are just a scratch of what Beatty’s character is like. Beatty uses obscure conflicting ideas to show how much he loved to read at some point in his life. Beatty uses this type of dialogue to show Montag how useless reading books can be. Beatty is the antagonist, which makes the story more interesting. This means of evil adds flavor to the entire story. He is a problem that can’t seem to be resolved. The story seemed to over due this mans intelligence. He’s a hard man to understand because of his way of thinking. In conclusion, these two quotes explain that Beatty has the mentality of a college professor. Books really do help with everything you do. However this malicious man seems to think books are against people. Beatty is the problem in the story. This makes up a big portion of the theme of the story.

Dear Montag,
         It was nice talking to you today, you're a very interesting man. Although I do not approve of you being a fireman. I just don't understand why you could possibly hate books so much that you'd want to burn them. I think you should meet my uncle, he might be able to show you a thing or two about books. You never know, you could change your whole view on them!

                         The Struggle of Present Day Life

Dear Diary,

I am a little concerned for Montag. His life seems to be going down hill, which is always a bad thing. We don’t want people to be unhappy; we want people to be Happy. However, Montag doesn’t seem to understand books. With that being said, I’m concerned he is tempted to reading books to find answers to his poor pathetic life. Last night I tried to tell him about how unnecessary books are to people’s lives. He doesn’t understand that all it does is add fuel to the already burning fire of misfortune. He will understand, soon. If he does begin to read books, we will simply send 451 to burn the books in his house. If I don’t figure out he his hiding books on my own, I’m sure his wife will give me the hidden details that I’m not seeing. She doesn’t seem to care what the purpose of life is. In fact, a few days ago, she felt it was time to end her miserably failed life.

I’ve already mentioned to Montag on what the importance of life is, but I suppose you may not have gotten the memo. Life is a rollercoaster, not that it goes up and down, but sometimes you get scared and want to get off the ride. You already decided to ride the rollercoaster. There is no turning back; you just have to hold your gut till you get to the end. However, sometime it doesn’t end. Then there are people who feel the need to enjoy the ride, even if they are scared out of their minds. That is the importance of life. Instant pleasure. Doing what you want to do when you want to do it. In this life you have two options: live you life by choosing different ways of attacking the problem, and, at the end, prospering in life because of this decision; or you can have your leash pulled by someone with higher authority. I say put all this a side and find what makes you happy. I love my job. I hate books with a passion. So, I decided it would be good for me to join 451. My job is all about instant pleasure. I love the smell of kerosene burning the leather of the outer cover shell of the book, as well as the inner pages.  I love the stern, furious faces of the people when we first arrive at their doorstep. I love the sound of their frail voices pleading not to burn the books they have been hiding. It’s all part of instant pleasure. This is what I was trying to tell Montag. Now I’m just waiting for his wife to give me a call telling me Montag has hidden books in his house. He is obviously desperate to know what the meaning of life in his life is. Thus, he will start reading books, eventually. Apparently everything I told him simply whizzed passed his head, missing the message of my “Meaning of Life” Theory. Like I said, he will understand the downside to books, soon. I look forward to seeing Montag again. I got a few things I would like to say to this curious fellow.

Dear Montag,

I think that it's great that we trying to change this city. When you came to my house the other night, at first I was scared that you were trying to trick me. But as we talked I realized you were being serious. For once in a long time I have hope for the future. It may just be two men against the whole city but I believe we can change it for the better. Dear diary,
 I just moved into this house by a man named Montag. I talked to him for awhile, and found out he's a firefighter. I always thought firefighters used to put fires out, but he says they always started fires. He's not like the other firefighters, he actually talks to me. He's really kind too. Something's different about him.

There is this girl clarisse that think she is sleek trying to talk to my husband behind my back but I know. i've been reading the books with Montag but i don't like too at all.

Meet My Character

Dear Diary,

         Hi I'm Montag. I take lot's of pride in my work at the fire department. My uniform reeks in cinder and ash, but I enjoy dressing in it and pointing the nozzle toward illegal books. I love the smell of kerosene that raises the temperature to the required 451 degrees. I haven't been myself lately. I have yet to find out what it is but my mind is restless and I have to take sedatives to sleep. My marriage is going downhill and my friend Clarisse McClellan isn't making it any better. When she teases me about not being in love I feel guilty about failing to love my wife and not being able to remember the first time I met her.

 Dear Mildred,
     
         I have to tell you something that's been bothering me for a while now. A little while ago I was sent to go burn some books, but I stole them instead. I was shaken when the owner of the books refused to leave her home. She set fire to her kerosene drenched  home and remained there as her house, and her, are destroyed by flames. It really made me think about peoples dedication to their books and that maybe it can be the cause of peoples happiness. Can you believe that happened?


If you really knew me.

        If you really knew me you would know that my biggest regret is not loving my wife. Im determined to break free from ignorance and see all sides of things. I'm never the type to call into work, but after what I saw, I couldn't bare going. Imagine seeing an older woman burning alive all because of her dedication to her books. It makes me want to dig deeper into understanding the meaning and importance of the books.


Utopia vs. Dystopia

         I am completely under the influence of the government. I think the government is right and a Utopia. I get happy when I burn books. Our society is Utopian because the government provide everything to the people. "Is it true, the world works hard while we play." (Bradbury 74). I started to realize that maybe my society isn't as Utopian as it seems because I can't be poor if I was going to buy my 4th Parlor Wall. However, the rest of the world is starving and the country is at constant war because of people like me.

Meet My Character

Hello everyone. My name is Beatty. One thing you should know about me is that I don’t want people reading books. Books try to make people unhappy by using confusing ideas and ranting on to one another about who is right and who is wrong. I should know. I was a book- worm in my earlier days. The second thing you should know about me is I’m reasonably smart and intelligent. I can use higher levels of intelligent than the average person to blatantly show exactly what I’m trying to say. This is especially thanks to my reading habits of my younger self. Now that books are not only illegal but also confusing and useless to read, it also helps people to stay happy. Spread the word. What makes you happy? The third thing you should know about me is I have no remorse for others. Even though I try to convince Montag that he is happy, I don’t care much about the people who commit suicide because they cannot live without their books. This is what people assume at least. The forth thing you should know about me is I work in the fire fighting squad. We are not like the ones Clarisse mentioned to Montag a while back, the ones who put out fires. No- we do not prevent fires, we cause them. It gives me pleasure to burn books. Keeps my mind off all the derogatory day-by-day necessities in the world. That’s one of the reasons I joined “451”. In fact, I did so well, and had so much compassion for my job; they decided to give me a higher level of authority apart from just being a firefighter. Now I’m the captain of 451, and proud of it! We burn books so no one learns something new and we don’t advance in technology. Like I said, books try to make people unhappy and confused. Do not read books people! It’s against the law! The fifth thing you should know about me is I’m afraid of Clarisse. I’m afraid of people with that kind of personality and that kind of family. They feed information into her brain through heredity, so it is passed down from family member to family member. Now look at the poor girl. She walks around the city to look at things and ask questions as if she thinks people know everything about everything. She wants to know why, not how. She does this alone too. She has no friends and will always have no friends because people don’t become colleagues with people they are afraid of; they run away from them. I don’t know what her family said to her, but I can tell you this: they are all a little odd and disconnected with the world. The sixth thing you should know about me is that I think the world is underwater, and the only purpose to life is instant pleasure. Rather that is the pleasure of eating, sleeping or other explicates pleasures. This is the only thing worth living for, in my opinion. And burning books. Yes. Instant pleasure is all that shows any importance in our lives today. This is the sad world we live in. I have to go now; hope I will have the opportunity to talk to you again in the future.
